The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art resumed regular museum hours yesterday (Friday, 11-5pm; Sat-Sun, 12-6pm; Tues-Thurs, by appointment). They've planned a month chock full of special events, talks, and workshops to welcome in the new year, which will see their Peekskill Project V (a city-wide arts project that launched in September) through to the end of July. Here are some highlights of what's on tap this January at the HVCCA:

January 12 and 13: Tomorrow, Ben Altman will talk on his installation "Say Peekskill," a series of audio interviews about living in Peekskill and photographic portraits of the interviewees at the Field Library Gallery. Though Altman is a Peekskill-outsider, his project engages the vibrant community that caught his attention into conversations with itself. Opening reception for the exhibit is today from 1 to 4pm.

January 20: Jo-Ann Brady hosts clay-based educational workshops from 2 to 4pm. Inspired by the clay pieces by Peekskill Project V artist Brie Ruais, participants will work with colored clays, and the results will be fired, glazed, and ready for pick up in mid-February. There will also be an opportunity to help create a mural for downtown Peekskill. Participants will paint a scene from the Hudson Valley landscape with glaze on clay tile, which will be fired and assembled into a collaborative mural on South Street. The workshops are open to kids of all ages, but parental supervision is required for children under 5.

January 23: The HVCCA book club will discuss the January selection: Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art by Laney Salisbury and Aly Sujo. New readers are welcome for the informal discussion.

Find out about additional special events planned for the month, as well as exhibits currently on view at the museum, at HVCCA's website.
