There is something about dipping into a six-lane, 25-yard indoor pool in the middle of a brutal winter that just snaps me out of a winter funk. When I first moved to the Hudson Valley, a fellow mom told me that the pool at Bard College is one of the best kept secrets here. I have to agree with her. My family and I love to go to the pool at the Stevenson Athletic Center on winter weekends during the Open Swim time (1:30pm-8pm on Saturdays and 1:00pm-8pm on Sundays) to relax and swim. A few lanes are set aside for slow moving adults or families with kids. There is a diving board, too. If you want to swim laps, you can do that in the remaining lanes. I like the low key friendly atmosphere at the pool. It wasn't very crowded at all when we went this past Saturday. The locker rooms are nothing fancy, so bring your own lock and toiletries. It costs $20 for a family of 4, or $10 per person for the day. Call or check their website for the Open Swim times as they can change every month.
