In 2005, dancer Jorelle Pomé was in a life-altering automobile accident that left her in a coma for six weeks. Pomé suffered a traumatic brain injury—impairing her speech, balance, and coordination—and is now unable to walk independently.

Eight years after her accident, the Rosendale-based choreographer returns to the stage with her new contemporary performance, "Survival, It's a Dance."

Originally slated to debut in November 2012, but cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy, the dance will premiere at the Performing Arts Center at High Meadow School in Stone Ridge on March 8 at 8pm. There will be additional performances on March 9 at 8pm and March 10 at 2pm.

The evening-length piece is based on Pomé's four-year recovery, and features able-bodied dancers, Ruby Bard and Kyle Ducham. Pomé will also be in the dance—sometimes in her wheelchair and other times assisted by the other dancers. The performance is part of the Earthborne Dance Project, a nonprofit organization started by Pomé's family and friends to give people challenged with disabilities the opportunity to enact their artistic visions.

"Survival, It's a Dance" will be performed at the Performing Arts Center at High Meadow School in Stone Ridge on March 8 and 9 at 8pm, and March 10 at 2pm. There is a suggested $5 donation.
