The internationally observed Record Store Day was officially founded in 2007 to boost the increasingly threatened business of the independent music shops that continue to enrich the lives of so many of us. Held on the third Saturday of April (this year it’s on April 20), the day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world via exclusive Record Store Day-only releases and events. And to that end, Poughkeepsie’s Darkside Records and Gallery has something wildly special planned: an in-store meet-and-greet and record-signing appearance by acclaimed New Jersey indie-punk outfit Titus Andronicus.

The band will perform for free at Vassar College that evening with rapper Le1f. Event info here:

Formed in 2005, Titus Andronicus plays crashing, literate hard rock that's won praise from publications ranging from Pitchfork to Rolling Stone, and the band's explosive live shows feel like a mash-up of the Clash, the Pogues, and Bruce Springsteen’s epic sweep. Have a gander here:

The group has a strong local connection in that its acclaimed 2010 album, The Monitor (XL Recordings), was cut at Marcata Recording in Gardiner. So get set to sweat hard and shop hard for Record Store Day 2013, Hudson Valley rock fans.

Titus Andronicus will perform at Darkside Records and Gallery at 1pm on April 20.
