I really love bagels. When I lived in Queens and Manhattan, I used to eat them a few times a week because delicious bagels are so easy to find in the city. In the Hudson Valley, I have to get in my car and drive to find a good bagel. Until last Saturday, though, I couldn't get any real bagel satisfaction.
As soon as I walked into Sunrise Bagels and Deli last Saturday morning I got the warm and fuzzies. There were about 10 people waiting in line, including a few police officers, which is always a good sign. (I've noticed that police officers always seem to know where the really good budget-friendly places are.)
I ordered an everything bagel with lox cream cheese, and it was really extraordinary in bagel terms. The bagel was huge and very fluffy. I know there are bagel purists out there who will argue that a real bagel doesn't have to be huge and puffy, but these are the bagels I love. I also ordered a whole wheat bagel with olive cream cheese for my husband, a cinnamon bagel, and a salty bagel for the kids. I took a bite out of everyone of them just to make sure they were Hudson Valley Good Stuff worthy. Two of them were so hot that I thought maybe they toasted them against my wishes, but they were hot out of the oven!
