Last week, I blogged about pianist and Bard College educator Jeremy Denk's snagging of the esteemed MacArthur “genius” grant. Today, I figured I’d let you know about the Hudson Valley activities of another pianist who just received the coveted MacArthur prize: jazz man Vijay Iyer, who plays a concert tonight as part of a series sponsored by the Creative Music Studio at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian.

The concert is the final one of four held this week at the resort in connection with the CMS Fall Workshop. Performing with Iyer this evening are violist Jason Hwang, drummer Harvey Sorgen, guitarist Omar Tamez, bassist John Menegon, vibraphonist Karl Berger, and vocalist Ingrid Sertso.

Take in this sublime performance by Iyer and his trio at Le Poisson Rouge in New York last year:

Vijay Iyer performs with Jason Hwang, Harvey Sorgen, Omar Tamez, John Menegon, Karl Berger, and Ingrid Sertso at 8pm tonight, October 10, at the Roadhouse at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian. Admission is $20. For more information, call (845) 254-5117 or visit
