Following the 2011 dissolution of Sonic Youth, ex-band members Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo have both performed in our area; Moore with his brief-lived acoustic project and new quartet Chelsea Light Moving, and Ranaldo with his band, the Dust, which also includes Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. And this month the legendary New York noisemakers’ former bassist and vocalist, Kim Gordon, will take her turn when her new outfit Body/Head plays MASS MoCA.

Since cutting the first Sonic Youth demos three decades ago, Gordon has delivered a new boundary-breaking project every year, in every manner of art and music. A deeply improvisational, Syd Barrett-era-Pink Floyd-inspired duo, Body/Head, pairs her propelling guitar and vocals with notable free-noise guitarist Bill Nace.

Take a listen to “Abstract” from Body/Head’s debut on Matador Records, Coming Apart, whose title would seem to reference the turmoil surrounding the demise of Gordon's former band:

Body/Head will perform at MASS MoCA’s Hunter Center on Saturday, December 14 at 8pm. Tickets are $20. For more information, call (413) 662-2111 or visit http://www.massmoca.org/index.php.
