Celebrated Americana/ singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick comes to the Hudson Valley this month for a fittingly close-quartered evening at one of the region’s most down-to-Earth and music friendly venues, the Rosendale Cafe.

Signed to Atlantic Records in the mid ’90s, Ferrick was part of a wave of upstart female singer-songwriters that included the likes of Liz Phair and Ferrick’s college classmate Paula Cole. Morrissey was an early champion of Ferrick, and personally invited her to tour as one of his opening acts. Ferrick eventually went on to found her own label and release a number of albums on which she played every instrument herself. Along the way, her life has taken dips and turns, and she has chronicled every detail in her songwriting. She has shared the stage with Marc Cohn, Paul Westerberg, Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, G-Love & Special Sauce, Dan Bern, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Mike Doughty, the Indigo Girls, and many others.

See this promotional clip for “I Don’t Want You to Change,” from Ferrick’s latest album, 2013’s The Truth Is (MPress Records):

Melissa Ferrick will perform at the Rosendale Cafe in Rosendale on February 8 at 8pm. Tickets are $20. For more information, call (845) 658-9048 or visit
