Keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and former Bard College student Akie Bermiss was in funk-soul unit theFoundation, one of my fave local bands back in the day. Since heading south to his native Brooklyn several years ago Bermiss has been leading his own projects, performing with the quartet Aabaraki and other acts, and sometimes helming Akie B. and the Falcons, the house band at the Falcon. And it’s to that Marlboro venue that he returns this Sunday to serve up his soulful sounds during a special brunch-time slot.

“To his friends, he is considered a musical snob of the highest order,” reads the bio on Bermiss’s website, “to his enemies—a musical charlatan of the basest variety.” No wonder I dig the guy.

Check this clip of Bermiss getting down at the Falcon in 2010:

Akie Bermiss will perform at the Falcon in Marlboro on February 23 from 10am to 2pm. Donation requested. For more information, visit
