I know, I know. I just posted on this week about a hip music event in Hudson. I can’t help it if the town’s been drawing a lot of cool bands lately. Rest assured, another local municipality will step up to the plate soon enough with its own run of recommended gigs. That’s just the way it goes in this happening Hudson Valley of ours. Anyway, this Saturday, right on the heels of tomorrow’s show by the Sadies (see Tuesday’s Daily Dose) comes this one at the Spotty Dog Books & Ale by the reunited 1960s psychedelic band the Random Concept.

Formed in Western Connecticut in 1965, the Random Concept features stoner folk legend Gary Higgins (see 1973’s Red Hash, reissued by the Drag City label) and originally included Silver Apples main man Simeon. The group was a regular presence on the mid-’60s Greenwich Village scene, where they crossed paths with Andy Warhol’s entourage. Although active on and off over the decades, the band only recently unveiled its eponymous, self-released debut.

The wonderfully Jefferson Airplane-esque “Angel Eyes” opens the disc:

The Random Concept and Pigeons perform at the Spotty Dog Books & Ale in Hudson, New York, on March 21 at 8pm. Admission is $7. For more information, call (518) 671-6006 or visit
