Mississippi-born Charlie Mars has drawn effusive praise from American Songwriter magazine, who compared him to the late Woodstock-connected singer-songwriter Jesse Winchester. Tomorrow night, locals who remember Winchester will have their chance to hear how accurate the likening is when Mars plays the Linda/WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio.

Mars, who is also an actor and the boyfriend of “Weeds” star Mary Louise-Parker, has toured with the Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Citizen Cope. He can be seen in the film The Free State of Jones, set for release on March 11, 2016. His latest album, The Money, was released on Rockingham Records in 2014.

Enjoy the title track here:

Charlie Mars will perform at the Linda/WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio in Albany, New York, on September 25 at 8pm. Tickets are $18. For more information, call (518) 465-5223 ext. 4 or visit http://www.wamcarts.org/index.php.
