Film Focuses on Folk Music Guru

As the proprietor of Greenwich Village’s legendary Folklore Center music shop, Izzy Young is, in many ways, the father of the 1950s and ’60s folk revival—and thus has a strong connection to Woodstock and the Hudson Valley music scene at large. A recently released documentary, Izzy Young: Talking Folklore Center, profiles Young, now 87, and offers his riveting recollections as the facilitator of one of the most significant eras of modern popular music.

Also interviewed for the film, which was years in the making, are Pete Seeger, former Mayor of New York City Ed Koch, Allen Ginsburg, Woodstock’s Ed Sanders and his co-conspirator in the Fugs, Tuli Kupferberg, and others. And of course Bob Dylan, who Young is credited with having discovered, is discussed as well.
