On the wings of their warmly received slot at last fall’s FreshGrass festival at Mass MoCA, husband-and-wife folk act Birds of Chicago will land once again at the Berkshires multi-arts venue on January 23.

Birds of Chicago centers around singers and multi-instrumentalists JT Nero and Allison Russell, whose music draws on gospel traditions while simultaneously embracing the deep grooves of country and soul. Their newest album, the Joe Henry-produced Real Midnight (Independent), will be released next month.

In this 2013 front-porch performance, the group croons the lulling “I Have Heard Words”:

Birds of Chicago will perform at Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, on January 23 at 8pm. Tickets are $16 in advance, $10 for students, $22 day of, and $28 preferred. For more information, call (413) 662-2111 ext 1 or visit massmoca.org.
