New Album Features Hudson Valley Author Neil Gaiman

Composer Andrew Shapiro grew up in Westchester County and was mentored in New York by none other than Philip Glass. Shapiro began releasing ambient electronic recordings in 2003 before moving in more pianistic directions that embraced American Minimalism and the proto-Minimalism of Erik Satie. His newest album, Pink Jean Mint Green, has an unexpected local link—a collaboration with acclaimed area author Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman and Shapiro worked together on the track “Bash Street Worlds,” a synth-pop ode to the classic U.K. comic The Beano, a childhood favorite of both artists. Pink Jean Mint Green was produced by Grammy-winner Mario J. McNulty and will be released on June 24 on Shapiro’s Airbox label. Drummer Sterling Campbell (B-52s, Duran Duran, Soul Asylum, Cyndi Lauper) and Simon O’Connor (Kuroma) also make appearances.
