Hersey, a Woodstocker and a NEA Composition Fellow, formed the harmonic singing group Prana in 2000 and has led the ensemble through four albums thus far. In response to the present and dangerous US political situation, he and the group have stepped out of their usual purely spiritual style to record “Stand Up!,” which Hersey describes as “ a song for resistance.”

“‘Stand Up!’ is meant to motivate, inspire, and uplift those who are resisting the present administration’s use of fear, hate, and division to subvert the Constitution and seize power from every American,” he says. The track features singers Hersey, Amy Fradon, Kirsti Gholson, Timothy Hill, and Bruce Milner and drummer Jerry Marotta.

Hear it hear:

Funds from the song's sales will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Southern Poverty Law Center, Planned Parenthood, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
