Blues Away From Home
The Egg
Steel town blast furnace brothers, The Kinsey Report, are experienced players with years of crowd-pleasing blues music behind them. They have worked with Bob Marley (one album being Rastaman Vibration) and Peter Tosh and just released their sixth album, Smoke and Steel. The album includes songs from their steel-town roots and is a primer of blues-based eclecticism. The songs include different styles and topics such as: delta dirt in "Down in the Dungeon" to questioning racial hatred on "When the Church Burned Down." |

Adding to their experience and dedication, the brothers represent a third generation in a family of musicians. These blues veterans are from Gary, Indiana. Their debut album, "Edge of the City" (1987), earned three W.C. Handy nominations. Downbeat Magazine complements brothers Ralph, Donald, and Kenneth, by saying that they are, "paving the way between the blues and rock, reggae and soul. Their sensibility is thoroughly modern while remaining authentically grounded." Ernie Williams & The Wildcats will open for the Kinsey brothers at The Egg in Albany on January 23. The band has been called Albany's "Ambassadors of the Blues." They play hard driving, good time American roots music and played at last years three-day event. This show will be a part of the Mid-Winter Blues Festival, an event that plays for three consecutive Saturdays. Headlining acts include Carl Weathersby and Chico Banks, A Tribute to Howlin' Wolf with Willie Kent and The Gents, Bonnie Lee and Detroit Junior, and opening act Uncle Ben & Blues Alley reunion. The shows will be held January 16, 23, & 30 at The Egg in Albany. |
