Anyone who was at our fifth birthday at the Rosendale Café got a healthy dose of Carl Welden. (If any of you have forgotten - he appeared out of a side door with a mask on shouting, "Hooray for our side!" over and over.)

He came out all pistons firing and kept us glued to his antics for fifteen minutes - which is a tough gig at such a boozy affair as we had. Welden told me that what the revelers saw at the Café was a best of selection from his "Dances with Werewolves" show, which he will perform more or less in it's entirety at the Painted Word.

Welden's performances are hard to describe; they're psychological deconstructions, political incitements, tour de force vocal formations - think Michael Winslow of Police Academy fame on acid. They're populated by the insane, the righteous, and the weird. A heavy dose of the weird. We don't know where he came from, but if he doesn't end up in a rubber room first, he might just go somewhere. Pensacola maybe, or Orlando.
