Freestyle Frolic
November 3, 17—An alternative to the club scene: dancing in a smoke-free, alcohol-free and shoe-free environment to a wide range of music spun by some very eclectic DJs. pH10
November 3—pH10, a live electronic act from Brooklyn is playing its first gig in the Hudson Valley at the Rhinecliff Hotel. The duo, consisting of Recone F. Helmut and Clark ov Saturn, work in a style of music they call “pHungle” (fun + Jungle) and have performed all over the US and Europe. Local DJ Shy (a.k.a. Celtic Mini-Festival with Whirligig & Celtic Crossing
November 3—A night celebrating Celtic music as Whirligig performs modern acoustic music, using the roots of the Irish and Celtic traditions. Roy Book Binder
November 9—The Woodstock Guild presents an evening with legendary singer/songwriter/bluesman Roy Book Binder at the Kleinert/James Performing Arts Center. Renowned as one of the finest blues fingerpickers active today, Roy Book Binder is a blues-singing, guitar-picking, song-writing raconteur who has been performing for 30 years. 8 PM. $20. 679-2079.

Derek Trucks Band
November 11—Derek Trucks is a guitar virtuoso with talent beyond his 21 years of age. When he’s not working with his own band, he takes the job of lead guitarist (!) in The Allman Brothers Band. Towne Crier in Pawling. 8:30 PM. $30. $27.50/members. www.derekstrucks.com.

Steve Kimock Band
November 11—Jazz, fusion, rock, world beat, and blues are alive in the sound of the Steve Kimock Band as they take the audience on an adventure defining small band improvisation. A guitar fixture on jam band scene, Steve Kimock has played with Phil and Friends, and the Other Ones as well as touring extensively with his own band. Mickey Hart & Bembe Orisha
November 16—African, Cuban, Persian, Indian, and Native-American rhythms anchor music that blends Eastern and Western influences in a unique united world sound. Featuring Mickey Hart, formerly of the Grateful Dead on RAMU, balyphon, kalimba; Nengue Hernandez on percussion; Bobi Cespedes on vocals; Tahsaan Fredericks on bass; and Barney Doyle on guitar. Living Legends of the Blues
November 23—Upstart Blues Productions continuing their tradition of producing quality concerts presents Living Legends of the Blues at The Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. With rare appearances by Pinetop Perkins and George Kilby Jr., they are joined by local legends Little Sammy Davis with Midnight Slim, and a special appearance by Slam Allen. 7:30 PM. 876-3080.

Swanksgiving

Howie MacDonald
November 25—One of Cape Breton’s finest fiddlers, MacDonald’s talent for comedy remained confined to the backstage area during the 10 years he spent touring the world with the now-disbanded Rankins. He will be bringing his unique show to The Colony in Woodstock for a performance incorporating frenetic fiddling and improvised comedy that is guaranteed to get the heart racing and belly laughing. 4 PM–6 PM. $12. 679-5342.
