Argentinean-born artist Roberto Azank paints what
Ronald Vigo has termed metaclassical works. Azank employs
the classic still life subjectsbowls of fruit, flowers, bottles,
candles, vasesbut he places them on disorienting monochromatic surfaces,
taking the object out of three-dimensional space and pasting it, like
a Colorform (remember them?) on a random background. The difference being,
however, that Azanks work is intricate and intentional in its use
of color, each plane subtly corresponding to the elements of the still
life likes the notes of a composition by Mozart. |
