New Hampshire-based artist Darren McManus’
Yellow Girl #1 is one in a four-part series initially created in 1996.
McManus’ series of “girl” paintings are his attempt to
recreate the beloved past—to stitch together a nostalgic mood from
memory. McManus has written of his work: “Perhaps my work can best
be described as a collection of visual documentations based on the atmosphere
of a distant place and time that I was fortunate enough to visit.”
McManus, 26, has exhibited his work across the US and in the UK, and is
enrolled in the MFA painting program at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in
Michigan.
