> On the Cover Chichester landscape artist Christie Scheele has a knack for breaking down a scene and reducing it to its bare essentials. Scheeles pastels minimize visual clutter, employing minimalistic elements to create quiet, dreamy works. And while her paintings are not always literal representations, everything Scheele paints could exist in nature, and is a blend of expressive and descriptive styles that is more concerned with evoking a sense of place than in creating formal landscapes. A major solo exhibition of over 45 works by Scheele, Working the Edge, will run through November 30 at Albert Shahinian Fine Arts in Poughkeepsie. For more information, call 454-0522.
