Melissa Leo nominated for Best Actress Oscar!!!

YESSSS! Everyone who knows Melissa Leo already knows that she is Academy award material PLUS....and now the whole world knows! I saw Melissa last night at the New York State Film Commisson party just outside of Park City... and she was nervous and excited about the nominations announcement which came at 6:30 this morning at Sundance (8:30 est)... As we had to get to the airport early anyway, we turned on the TV at 6:30 and yes... there was Melissa's name along side the likes of Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie. Meira and I let out enough hollars to wake up the hotel!

It was clear that Melissa, who lives around Stone Ridge, realizes her life will completely change. She actually referred to the possibility, saying that last night could be the last day of the first part of her life! We are just sooo happy.. Her Film FROZEN RIVER, was also nominated for best screenplay, so that's a double honor which could help her clinch the prize. It's especially sweet because Frozen River premiered at Sundance last year...! what a whirlwind!

I'm sure the film will be re-released wide now...be sure to see it...it's an extraordinary story about two hard-pressed women who smuggle people from NYS to Canada... it's deep, satisfying and illuminating.
Melissa.... you go girl!!
