Saugerties Artists Studio Tour Returns with New Face, Solid Tradition

The Saugerties Artists Studio Tour has grown in twelve short years from an idea to an institution. The tour, which began with a hopeful idea, has become a must-see attraction as art tourism expands in the Hudson Valley. This year, 34 painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, and artists whose work defies categorization will be opening their studios on August 9 and 10. The wide range of artistic expression offers something of interest for everyone. For the serious collector this is not be missed, for the newcomer you'll see art as you've never seen it before from completed works to works in progress.

Art lovers can get a preview of the many faces of art available to them on the tour at the group show opening reception at the Gallery at the Opus 40 Sculpture Park on August 8, the kickoff event for the tour itself. Then, with the help of the tour map (available at locations all around town, and at saugertiesarttour.com), you can find your way to an artistic kaleidoscope of styles, media, and personalities, as the tour artists open their studios, and offer more than a glimpse into how they work, where they work, what they work with. They will discuss their techniques, their philosophies of art, and how they are inspired. They will give demonstrations and, where possible, let visitors try their hand at creating.

Tour hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., August 9 and 10. The opening reception and group exhibit is at Opus 40, 50 Fite Road, Saugerties, from 5 to 7 p.m. on August 8. All the tour events are free and open to the public. Further information and map pick up sites are at www.saugertiesarttour.com.
