Woodstock, Bonnaroo, Coachella: These names have become synonymous with the multi-day outdoor music festival experience, where one can entirely immerse oneself in music, camping, and nature, while embracing their inner hippie. The annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival includes all of these elements, and has had more consecutive concerts than any of its more famous cousins. Located on a farm in Hillsdale, New York, Falcon Ridge has been gaining momentum on the music festival scene since 1988, increasingly drawing crowds of thousands. Its ability to bring together musicians from a wide array of musical genres—and from legendary performers to emerging artists—makes it a popular destination for both new fans and devoted followers. All flavors of folk are represented. This summer's acts range from traditional folkie Janis Ian, to the more country infused music of Kathy Mattea, to the classical tone of Susan Werner. Girlyman, a trio known for its unique harmonies and blend of instruments and styles, will return by popular demand. Fiddle legend Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul will play, along with local talent Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, whose music draws from bluegrass, folk, and classic rock. These are just a few of the nearly 50 singer/songwriters and bands that will be performing.

There are four stages to cater to different tastes: the Main Stage features headlining acts and emerging artists; the Workshop Stage features jam sessions between performers; the Dance Stage is extremely popular, with swing, contra, and square dancing until the early morning hours; the Family stage offers workshops and children's activities such as arts and crafts. (In fact, the whole event is kid-friendly, with children under 12 receiving free admission.) Camping, dancing, and food and crafts vendors are just a few of the highlights of this annual event held at the foot of the Berkshires. There are multiple fields for camping, including quiet areas and RV sites. The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival is July 23 thru 26. Pricing varies depending on the number of days attending; a camping pass is an additional fee. Discounted rates are available for seniors and students. (866) 325-2744;
