Autumn is a time for transition - the foliage changes, daylight becomes scarce as the clock turns back, and the air becomes crisp. With the hiking and biking season upon us, it’s time to conquer the open trail ahead, and make time to explore the Hudson Valley. Nestled between the Catskill and Shawangunk Mountains, Ellenville, NY, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts looking to embark on an afternoon hike, pedal through the woodsy terrain on a mountain bike, or set sail across the clear blue skies on a hang gliding adventure.

What you’ll find in Ellenville is an authentic, distraction-free experience where you can unwind and reconnect with the beauty and tranquility of nature. Whether on land or in the sky, there is always a new adventure for you to explore. From the depths of the famous ice caves at Sam’s Point Preserve and majestic waterfalls that grace the trails of Minnewaska State Park Preserve, to the peak of the Shawangunk Mountains, the sights are truly a spectacular wonder.

Celebrate the fall with a twist at Paint the Town Blue, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in Ellenville, NY. Hosted by the Ellenville Wawarsing Youth Commission, and Find Ellenville, this affair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain date: Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016). Show off your artistic talents, or judge our sidewalk chalk competition, and enjoy live music from Hudson Valley Bluegrass Express on Liberty Square in downtown Ellenville.

Artist registration starts at 10 a.m. in front of the Hunt Memorial Building, followed by an award ceremony at 2:30 p.m. and live performance from 3 - 5 p.m. All skill sets are welcome to the sidewalk competition, which boasts three categories: ages: 21+, ages: 13-18, and ages: 6-12. Participants are required to use non-oil based washable chalk. Judging is open to the public from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the artist who receives the most votes in each category.

Best of all, when the day is done, you’re just a few steps away from Restaurant Row, where culinary delights are aplenty. Sample locally sourced cuisine from Aroma Thyme Bistro, authentic Mexican flavors at Gaby’s Cafe, and much more.
