Did you know that human activities are contributing to melting ice caps in Antarctica? Interested in learning more?

On Friday, January 8th at 7:00 p.m. the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies will be hosting a special lecture on the environmental pressures facing Antarctica, the coldest continent on the planet. Cary Institute president Dr. William H. Schlesinger will present a photo-rich Antarctica travelogue exploring how climate change and
pollution threaten this remote region, which supports penguins, seals, and fragile marine-based ecosystems. Free and open to the public, the event will be held in the Cary Institutes auditorium, located at 2801
Sharon Turnpike (Rte. 44) in Millbrook, New York.

The Cary Institute is a private, not-for-profit environmental research and education organization. Areas of expertise include air and water pollution, climate change, invasive species, and the ecological dimensions of infectious disease. Learn more at: www.caryinstitute.org.

Mark your calendar! On Friday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. the Cary Institute will be hosting climatologist Dr. James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and one of the first scientists to
warn of the dangers of global warming. He will present his new book, Storms of My Grandchildren: The Truth about the Coming Climate Catastrophe and Our Last Chance to Save Humanity.
