Fleeting Melodies, Invisible Poems

9231ee92_rilke.jpg
An unusual musical celebration! Join us for the 141st birthday of one of the 20th century’s most important poets, Rainer Maria Rilke, whose focus on disbelief, solitude, and anxiety not only influenced generations of writers who followed, but also inspired more composers to set his texts to music than nearly any other major writer. Features Melodies passageres by Mount Kisco’s own two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Samuel Barber; selections from Paul Hindemith’s epic Das Marienleben chronicling the life of the Virgin Mary; and stunning love songs by the iconic Leonard Bernstein and Grawemeyer Award-winner Peter Lieberson.
