The 1980s were a very unique time for art students at SUNY Purchase. The solid brick mall above ground and the plexus of underground hallways below were designed more for tactical police actions than social commerce and creativity, and many found the environment lonely and alienating. The art work from this period bears this out, often evincing strong themes of isolation and fragmentation.
