Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health and Upstate Films are offering a special presentation of the documentary "Life Animated" at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck, 6415 Montgomery Street (Route 9), Rhinebeck NY 12572 on Wednesday, October 12 at 8 p.m.

Director Roger Ross Williams, who won an Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) for his 2010 film "Music by Prudence", will be on-hand for a Q&A following the film.

"Life Animated" tells the story of Owen Suskind, a young man with autism, who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. This emotional coming-of-age story follows Owen as he graduates to adulthood and takes his first steps toward independence. Advance tickets are available at Upstate Films in Rhinebeck and Woodstock or at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, 40 Devereux Way, Red Hook, NY 12571, and at the door. Seating is limited. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students (with ID), and $8 for members of Upstate Films. Proceeds from the performance will benefit programs at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health and Upstate Films.

“Devereux’s mission is to change lives – by unlocking and nurturing human potential in people living with emotional, behavioral and cognitive differences,” said Devereux Executive Director John Lopez. “This film highlights the importance of that mission and the amazing journeys that individuals, their families and those that support them take in the process. We want to share this film as an opportunity to raise awareness of the amazing stories that are in communities all around us.”
