On the shores of Bannerman Island, there are only the sounds of the Hudson’s wavelets and the whistle of wind through the crumbling frame of the abandoned castle. On July 7 and 8, voices will reclaim the island with the vigor of Kern and Hammerstien’s classic “Showboat.” Staged by the Opera Company of the Highlands in the island’s invitingly fragrant, historical garden, the performances are part of a series of upcoming events to raise awareness of the castle’s necessary stabilization to preserve the island as a historical and recreational destination. The $65 ticket includes round-trip boat transportation and a tour of the island. (845) 831-6346;
