Allen has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years, and for the past eight he has been the lead singer and guitarist in the James Cotton Band. And with Allen, it’s not just about the music; it’s about the performance. Frank Mattheis of thecountryblues.com wrote, “He works the crowd as if he was the reincarnate of Louis Armstrong; he solicits their call and response, and he sings and plays until the sweat pours off him profusely—always with a giant smile on his face.” And in an interview with the Capital News Network, Allen himself said, “Blues and soul, that’s what I like to do. I play anything that makes people feel good, that’s what I’m gonna try to play.”
