Elizabeth Chinery received her undergraduate degree from Stetson University where she studied with flutists Geoffrey Gilbert and Robert Morris. She continued her flute studies with Paige Brook, John Oberbrunner and Robert Dick, and for theory and composition Dennis Sandole, Jimmy Guiffre and Michael Musillami. She is principal flutist of the Schenectady Symphony, has appeared with the Albany Symphony, and performed in SPAC concerts, including the Three Irish Tenors. Elizabeth is also principal flutist with the Berkshire Lyric Theater Master Works Orchestra and has performed with the Berkshire Woodwind Quintet, the Vivante Trio, and the Taconic Trio. She has appeared as soloist with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and on the Bethesda Concert Series, Saratoga, NY. Elizabeth is the flute instructor at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT, and also teaches at her home studio in East Greenbush, NY.
Cellist Jay Shulman was born to a musical family in New York City. After early studies with Anthony Sophos, Lillian Rehberg Goodman and Harvey Shapiro, Jay attended Syracuse University where he was a student of Frederick Miller. Subsequent studies were at Colby College, with the Hungarian String Quartet. With violinist Frances Magnes, Jay was a cofounder of the Rochambeau Trio, and with pianist Fredrica Wyman, the River Duo. He is a member of the Long Island Philharmonic and the orchestra of the Conductors Institute at Bard. Jay teaches and performs throughout the Hudson Valley. He has recorded with the Bronx Arts Ensemble and is heard on the soundtrack of Sedat Pakay's PBS documentary "Josef and Anni Albers." Jay has produced CD reissues of the Stuyvesant String Quartet for Parnassus and Bridge Records, and of the music of his father, Alan Shulman, for Bridge and Hep Records.
David Smith holds his undergraduate degree from Harvard in English Literature, and graduate degrees from Harvard in Musicology, and from Yale in Music Theory, where he was a student of the theorist Allen Forte and an Instructor in Music. He was also a student of Nadia Boulanger and Jean Casadesus in Fontainebleau, France, and a Conducting Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School. David has been Conductor of the HarvardRadcliffe Chorus, the Orchestra Sine Nomine, and the New Haven Chorale, among other groups. He was born in Troy, NY, where an early and influential teacher was Russell Locke of the Emma Willard School. He was formerly President of the Columbia County Historical Society and President of The Fifty Group of Columbia County. David Smith is the founding Artistic Director of Concerts in the Village in Kinderhook, and Conductor of resident chorus, the Broad Street Orchestra.
