V-Day: “One Billion Rising”

V-Day presents an alternative view on traditional February 14 celebrations. An examination of (not rebellion against) the concept of true love lauded on Valentine's Day, V-Day has encouraged people to take part in global demonstrations against violence perpetrated against women and girls, including physical and sexual abuse, for 15 years. "One Billion Rising" encourages people to join the fight to end this violence, and events for awareness are scheduled across the world. One of the Ulster County events for "One Billion Rising" will be held at Back Stage Productions (BSP) in Kingston, led by the women-owned consulting firm Hale Advisors. Dancing and dance lessons will be interwoven with presentations from women in the arts, healthcare, and government between 12pm and 5pm. "One Billion Rising" events will be held at locations across the region, including Market Market in Rosendale and Time and Space Limited in Hudson.
