You're U.S.

Time & Space Limited and national arts organization You're U.S. come together, presenting seven stories that took a nation to create, each told in a mixture of radio and music. The event includes a Q&A with the artists, followed by a reception.

With the help of award-winning radio producers The Kitchen Sisters (NPR), Joe Richman (Radio Dairies), and Lea Thau (The Moth), indy media-makers Emile Klein and Jeff Emtman have churned a compelling set of narratives from seven American lives. The two have developed these pieces during a fellowship at Salem Art Works (SAW), an arts colony in upstate NY.

A children's choir sings an ode to the story of a contemporary nun, an off-the-grid survivalist recounts his societal departure to a Miami DJ's beats, a Hmong North Carolinian describes his America over an ambient electronic duo's soundscape. In each piece a collaborating musician uses their sound to respond to the individuals life. When paired, the works seem simultaneously relatable and foreign, grafting America's varied people into one new, cross-cultural harmony. Each piece plays on the concept of the "mashup." TSL will host the public debut of this new series combining radio storytelling with original music.
