Sumpweissager (Bogseer) detail, Richard Selesnick,
Iris print, 18 x 54, 1999
Brooklyn-based artist Richard Selesnick says that his Bogdweller series
was almost entirely conceived during an idle afternoon spent
in a copy shop making colour copies. According to Selesnick,
the Bogdwellers exist in a mute world that somehow exists outside
of time. This may be because it is a post-apocalyptic world, or maybe
it is because the bogdwellers themselves have become so isolated from
other societies that they exist in total separation from the conventional
flow history. The series was shot on location in Cape Cod, Scotland
and Ireland. The photograph detail above was taken at Strath Suardal,
in the Red Cullin Mountains, Isle of Skye, Scotland. Richard Selesnick
is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, (518) 828-1915.
