Parasol with Red Berries, Paul Cary Goldberg, Giclee-Iris print on
cotton rag paper
Massachusetts-based still life photographer Paul
Cary Goldberg creates images that have impressed critics across the country.
Helen Harrison of the New York Times wrote, Goldbergs arrangements
are just flat out gorgeous. William Zimmer, also of the Times, has
noted a distinct Vermeer-like quality in the richly detailed color imagery
of his prints. Cate McQuaid of the Boston Globe has labeled Goldberg a
standout.
The Giclee process that Goldberg uses is named for the French verb gicler,
to squirt. This squirting is done by an Iris printer, which
prints one million drops of ink per second on to (in Goldbergs case)
cotton rag paper from a scanned digital image of a transparency that Goldberg
shoots with low-grain Fuji Velvia film.
The cover image Parasol with Red Berries is from Goldbergs series
Objects of My Affection and was photographed using only natural
light in a studio setting.
Goldbergs work is held in various public and private collections,
and he has exhibited in solo and group shows across the us. Goldberg will
be exhibiting in a group show at Gordon College in Wenham, ma in February.
Goldberg has also been awarded a solo exhibition at the Print Center in
Philadelphia in November.
