Luminary Publishing recently had large magnetic signs fabricated for our flagship publications, Chronogram and Upstate House. The signs were made to be attached to the sides of delivery vans to increase our visibility during distribution, when our drivers would be trucking around the Mid-Hudson Valley bringing our readers their monthly bundles of joy. The first month we provided the signs to our distributors, the strangest thing happened...
One driver, working under the stalwart and faithful management of S&S Deliveries (the company that distributes our magazines), was parked in a supermarket lot in Fishkill, our Chronogram sign emblazoned on the side of his van, when a police car pulled up next to him. Problem? No, the officer just wanted a copy of Chronogram.
Later in that same run, the driver was in Wappingers Falls when he realized that a police cruiser was tailing him, red lights flashing. He pulled over with the cruiser right behind. The driver was confused as to why he was being pulled over, as he was doing 25 mph in a 30 mph zone. A self-described "pretty mouthy guy," the driver demanded an explanation from the cop: "What's the matter, officer? I thought I was well within the speed limit." The policeman replied, "Oh, there's nothing wrong, I just wanted a copy of Chronogram."
True story.
