Stone Ridge-based freelance photographer J. Gerard Smith specializes in on-location and studio portraiture, commercial photography, and book projects. He has published 127 books to date, including this year's crop: The Irish Face in America (Time-Warner), The JamLady Cookbook (Pelican Books), and Professional Baking (John Wiley & Sons). Platinum prints of recent portraits of fathers and their children, as well as some of Smith's portraits published in Fathers (St. Martin's Press, 2000), are on exhibit at Albert Shahinian Fine Art in Poughkeepsie until July 25. Smith's current personal project, "Pouring", is concerned with "spirituality, in Far Eastern thinking, including Zen Buddhism," he says.
