Dzul Dance combines historic ritual dances with a fiery mix of hip-hop, modern dance, and aerialist movement.
Javier Dzul's choreography takes you from the Mayan jungles, to Mexico nightclub salons of the 1940s, to the classic styles of iconic Mexican figures such as Emiliano Zapata, to the sounds of the popular Mexican hip-hop group Control Machete. Dzul, Artistic Director and Founder of Dzul Dance, is the only indigenous Mayan choreographer in New York City, and his company is returning after a highly successful 2010 sell-out season to premiere his new work, "Forest of Kings," later this month at the Baruch Performing Arts Center. On Saturday, January 8, at 7:30pm, Hudson Valley residents can catch a glimpse of this genre-bending dance company when it performs at the Millbrook High School Theater. Clips of Dzul Dance performances can be viewed here. For tickets to the performance, call (845) 244-1499.
