It’s hard to believe it was over a year ago that the great Levon Helm left us: April 19, 2012. It seems like it was only last week I was once again looking forward to seeing the iconic Band man and his amazing group hold court at yet another installment of the renowned Midnight Ramble sessions in Woodstock. While Levon’s undying aura will always be with us, his friends, fans, musicians, and organizers around the world have stepped up to add to that aura by contributing to the Levon Helm Studios “Keep It Goin’” initiative and other worthy causes.

In addition to thanking contributors and maintaining her father’s legacy through her own superlative music, Amy Helm is currently offering a “pay-what-you-want” download of a recently recorded, previously unreleased version of The Band’s classic “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” The track features Amy performing with Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Byron Isaacs, Elizabeth Mitchell, Daniel Littleton, Fiona McBain, Glen Patscha, Dirk Powell, and many others, and all proceeds donated by downloaders go to support “Keep It Goin’” and another cause Levon felt strongly about, the continuance of music programs in local schools.
