Kingston Event to Raise Money for Children with Autism

Posted By on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 9:00 AM

It's a fact: According to the National Institutes of Health, autism is now the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S. It affects 1 in 88 children (and 1 in 54 boys) - a staggering number that has been on the rise over the past few decades. Yet the amount of state aid to support children with autism is not rising as quickly. Tuitions at special needs schools like The Center for Spectrum Services (formerly The Children's Annex), with locations in Kingston and Ellenville, are frozen for the fourth year in a row, and a fifth year of the same has already been announced.

That's why gala fundraisers like The Center for Spectrum Services' June 1 auction and dinner are so important. The biennial event, taking place at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, will feature silent and live auctions and a dinner em-ceed by auctioneer George Cole. Items to be auctioned off include a tour and tasting for 10 at the Millbrook Winery (pictured above); vacations to Maui, Mexico, Cape May, and Cape Cod; themed gift baskets; experiences like skydiving and a kayak tour for 6; and many more.

Special honorees of the evening will be Ulster County Executive Michael P. Hein and corporate sponsor Prestige Toyota. Attendees will celebrate The Center for Spectrum Services' 37 years of serving children with autism in the Hudson Valley.

Tickets are $50 and include entry to the Saturday, June 1 event with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, multi-course dinner, wine, and dessert.
