Fat Bikes arrive in Woodstock at Overlook Mountain Bikes

Billy Denter, owner of Overlook Mountain Bike and a Surly fat bike

I stopped by Overlook Mountain Bikes last week, and owner Billy Denter was very excited about his new inventory of fat bikes. In case you are wondering what a fat bike is, it’s a bike especially designed with fat tires that you can ride in the snow. (Billy says you can even ride it in the sand!)

Last year the store sold several fat bikes, but this year he has more inventory as demand is greater. Snow biking is becoming more popular. The store has Surly and Kona brands for sale. Yes, next time we get a good snowstorm, the morning after you can go out for an invigorating fat bike ride! This year Overlook Mountain Bikes in Woodstock will be renting fat bikes during the winter. (You can also rent snowshoes from them). Billy invited me to check out a snow bike rental this winter. I will report back to you when I do. It looks like a heavy bike to ride, but I’ll make it! Now all the Hudson Valley needs is a bit of snow, right? Well, not right away, but I hope we do get a real winter this year.
