Anyone who loves music will attest to the healing powers it has on an emotional level. But increasingly in recent decades sound healing, which is sometimes includes music therapy, has become an accepted and vital therapeutic method. Peruvian musician, composer, and recording artist Tito La Rosa, who will be appearing at various locations throughout the Hudson Valley from May 15 through June 1, is one of the foremost sound healers now practicing.
Known as a curandero de sonido (sound healer) in his homeland, La Rosa has recorded with New Age star Kitaro and was a main presenter at the International Conference on Traditional Instruments in Contemporary Music, sponsored by the French government. He also took part in the Smithsonian’s 2002 traveling exhibit “Heart and Hands: Musical Instrument Makers of America.”

In this short video, La Rosa talks about and demonstrates some of his ancient techniques:

Tito La Rosa will perform sound healing ceremonial concerts at Sage Center for the Healing Arts in Woodstock on May 16 and 17; Living Seed Yoga Center in New Paltz on May 18; the Chakana & Flower Ceremonies in Bearsville on May 20, 27, and 29; Lifebridge Sanctuary in Rosendale on May 24; Ananda Ashram in Monroe on May 30; and Omega Institute in Rhinebeck on May 31.
