Woodstock Film Festival: "East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem"

At a dinner party last night I met Erez Miller, director of East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem. He's a young wide-eyed Israeli guy with a wispy beard and a self-deprecating air.

"I heard your movie was a hit!" I remarked.

"Yes," Erez replied, nodding. "I couldn't believe it. I got off the plane and they told me the movie was sold out, and I went there — it was the world premiere, the first time I had seen the movie with other people. And the audience laughed in the right places, they applauded after the songs! (There's a lot of songs in the movie.)"

Erez had the befuddled air of unexpected success. What next? Would he build a teepee the size of Mount McKinley? Drive two taxis at once? Suddenly, anything was possible.
