Sacred Shakers to Testify in Hudson

People that know me know me might be sick of my yammering on about Eilen Jewell. Sorry, friends, I'm not about to stop. She’s one of contemporary roots music's top artists, a high-plains diva whose chilling voice hits like Billie Holiday meeting Patsy Cline in the desert. Jewell is also a long-time fave at Club Helsinki, where she and her band will return with their gospel-oriented side project the Sacred Shakers on December 5.

With the core of singer-guitarist Jewell, drummer Jason Beek, bassist Johnny Sciascia, and the insanely spectacular guitar god Jerry Williams, the Sacred Shakers, to quote their dead-on press bio, “deliver hard-hitting country-gospel alongside soulful harmonies and primitive blues power. The all-star band’s infectious rootsy, rockabilly groove is exciting to witness and accessible to believers and doubters alike…This collective of Christians, agnostics, and Jews can sing of the true vine with an exciting Bo Diddley beat and just as easily slow it down to evoke the simple beauty of a plain little country church with the benches all worn.”

Here’s a little of what I'm getting at:

The Sacred Shakers and Zoe Muth & the Lost High Rollers will perform at Club Helsinki in Hudson on December 5 at 9pm. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 day of show. For more information, call (518) 828-4800 or visit www.helsinkihudson.com.
