The City of Beacon and BeaconArts put a different spin on the holidays when whey unveil their community Christmas Tree made by from recycled bicycle parts. On December 13th the city’s third annual Tree Lighting will take place at the intersection of Route 9D and Main Streets, adjacent from the Beacon Visitor Center.

The fun begins at 3pm when the Wee Play Community project organizes a simple craft for young children underneath tents provided by the city. Before Santa arrives the Beacon Music Factory and the Center for Creative Education will celebrate with music and dance until Santa strolls in a pedi-cab provided by People’s Bicycle around 4pm.

BeaconArts and Benavente are also collaborating with the Beacon Hebrew Alliance for a bicycle menorah that will be illuminated to honor a different segment of beacon on each of the eight Hannukah nights. The candles of the menorah will be replaced with wheels and will be on display at Polhill Park, lit approximately at 5:30 p.m. from Tuesday December 16 through Wednesday December 23.

Kicking off the night A Holiday Cheers Celebration will be hosted by BEAHIVE + Nixie Sparrow, at 291 Main Street directly after the tree lighting on Saturday, from 6-11pm. For more information please visit the event's website.
