New Paltz Musicians Launch New Organization

Breakfast in Fur

Last February, I wrote about New Paltz band Breakfast in Fur and the release of Flyaway Garden, their first album for Bar None Records. Recently, BIF guitarist Michael Hollis sent word about a new, noble-sounding project in which the band is involved: the Hudson Valley Music Collective, which launches this month with a grand opening event at Cafeteria coffee shop.

“The Hudson Valley Music Collective [HVMC] is a group of young working musicians dedicated to bringing relevant music education to the communities of the greater Hudson Valley,” says Hollis. “The HVMC boasts an eclectic roster of teachers who cover a wide array of instruments, genres, and abilities. Lessons can be held in the comfort of your own home or at the several studios available to the collective. Private, group, and online lessons will all be offered, as well as instruction. The collective will host a monthly open jam every first Wednesday at Caféteria in New Paltz with the students and a five-percent discount to Root Note Music. Monthly workshops and master classes will also be open to the students and public. The HVMC is comfortable teaching any age, as it’s never too early or late to start playing an instrument.”

Here’s some footage of Hollis’s band performing at the Move Music Festival in Albany this past June:

The Hudson Valley Music Collective’s grand opening will take place at Cafeteria in New Paltz on September 9 at 4pm. The meet-and-greet event will feature music by a rotating group of instructors from the collective. For more information, call (845) 633-8287 or visit http://cafeteriacoffeehouse.com/.
