In 2005, indie luminaries Luna called it a day, with core members Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips continuing as Dean and Britta. Last year, however, the influential quartet reunited, and on May 28 they’ll open Mass MoCA’s 2016 spring season with a concert at the cutting-edge contemporary art center.

Formed in 1991 by Wareham not long after the dissolution of his previous outfit, the influential dream pop trio Galaxie 500, Luna’s similarly glacial, melodic style has won comparisons to the Velvet Underground and Television. The group released seven critically exalted albums before splitting up, with 1992’s debut Lunapark (featuring local guitarist Grasshopper of Mercury Rev) and 1994’s Bewitched being the acknowledged fan favorites.

In this clip, Luna plays the Lunapark track “Slash Your Tires” in Los Angeles last April:

Luna will perform at Mass MoCA’s Hunter Center in North Adams, Massachusetts, on May 28 at 8:30pm. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day of show, and $40 preferred seating. For more information, call (413) 662-2111 or visit http://massmoca.org/.
