Folk rockers Big Thief’s hooky, lo-fi sound stole the heart off Conor Obert’s sleeve, leading to the earnest indie troubadour to release their new debut, Masterpiece, on his Saddle Creek label. Next month, in support of the optimistically titled album, the Brooklyn band comes to our area for two shows.

The quartet came together around the nucleus of singer-songwriter Adrianne Lenker and guitarist-singer Buck Meek, who’d already been performing and recording as a duo when they added Max Oleartchik on bass and James Krivchenia on drums and Big Thief was born. Voted Best New Artist of 2016 by NPR listeners, the band toured Europe last year with Yuck and Eleanor Friedberger and supported Lucius and JD McPherson on Central Park’s SummerStage in September.

Here’s the group’s official video for the title track of Masterpiece:

Big Thief will open for Damien Jurado at BSP in Kingston on November 3 at 7pm (tickets are $15; for information, visit http://bspkingston.com/) and headline at Mass MoCA’s Club B10 in North Adams, Massachusetts, on Saturday, November 5 at 8pm (tickets are $10 for students, $12 advance, $18 day of, and $24 preferred; for more information, visit https://massmoca.org/.)
