Gustafer Yellowgold has an eel and a dragon for pets, and his best friend on Earth is a pterodactyl named Forrest Applecrumbie. Since his arrival from the sun, he has been living beside a Minnesota lake in a somewhat psychedelic world. Gustafer is the Grammy-nominated and award-winning creation of songwriter, artist, and Hudson Valley local Morgan Taylor, who brings this multi-media, family-friendly (but not for kids only) performance filled with live music, colored-pencil animations, and storytelling to the Roxbury Arts Center on Saturday, November 12th, at 2p.

The Roxbury Arts Group is a non-profit multi-arts organization which offers high-quality arts programming, distributes grants to Delaware County artists and artistic projects, provides services to them and other not-for-profit cultural organizations, and creates opportunities for artists and the larger community of our region to engage. They’re dedicated to removing barriers between families and the arts in the rural communities that they serve. Sometimes this presents itself as the Youth & Family Scholarship Program, which makes funds available to help subsidize the cost of participation at their events or programs. Sometimes it presents itself as working at ten schools in three counties to offer high-quality, after-school arts programming. And sometimes it presents itself in free family programming during the summer months.

The Arts Group hosts a family-friendly Local Arts Market with scavenger hunt for kids on Saturday, December 3rd, from 11a-5p, and a Youth Dance Program with ongoing classes in Stamford. Upcoming is Young at Art, an exhibit in their Walt Meade Gallery that reaches children at eye level, creativity level, and excitement level. In an effort to create a space where children can have a non-precious, non-perilous art gallery experience, all work in this exhibit will be able to withstand the force of little hands. Call for artwork is currently open for this exhibit, which is scheduled to open on January 21, 2017.

Don’t miss it when Gustafer Yellowgold’s intergalactic travels collide with the Roxbury Arts Group!

Gustafer Yellowgold at the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury: Saturday, November 12 at 2:00 pm; $10 in advance or $15 day of, $5 for kids age 8 and under anytime. For tickets and more information, call 607.326.7908 or visit their website.
